In Minnesota the saying is that summer ends when the state fair is over. While since the state fair ends Labor Day you could get the impression it refers to the summer mindset but not this year.

The weather has been hot night and day all summer, but there was a change this weekend. The evenings are cool and the mornings are dew covered. The days are still delightful and warm but there is a change. The breeze carries the crispness of fall instead of the humidity of summer. The kind of breeze that makes you think of apple cider and carving pumpkins.

I am headed rapidly into the days of cardigans and sweaters in the morning and evening but t-shirts during the day. Autumn is my favorite time of the year. It brings a reprieve from the heat of summer and the bitter cold is still a couple of months off. I love the smell of fallen leaves and the crunch they make under foot. Fall is when life starts to slow down to a more sustainable pace. The world prepares for the quiet of winter, and I can catch my breath from the busy summer.
